AMBULANCES ARE A GO AT VIC YOUNG CONVERSIONS

Vic Young Conversions recently completed their latest conversion of 25 vehicles in under two months. They have converted and supplied 25 new Mercedes Vito wheelchair accessible vehicles to Thames Ambulance Service.

Thames Ambulance Service is a professional service providing high quality, individually tailored care to their patients 24/7, 365 days of the year. Their Patient Transport Service (PTS) offers healthcare professionals a range of transport solutions to assist with the transfer of patients, utilising a variety of vehicles designed to meet the different needs of patients.

The brief given to Vic Young Conversions was to provide a fully functioning vehicle to cope with all categories of patient transport including all levels of wheelchair users, from standard wheelchairs to heavy duty battery operated and electric wheelchairs.

The result was a solution to cover all areas of the brief. Each of the 25 Mercedes Vitos are equipped to transport any type of wheelchair available in the UK, assist with any mobility issues and ease use for operator.

The vehicle has been modified and equipped with lowered floor and fold flat ramp, designed and constructed in accordance with state of the art technology and recognised safety standards. The unique lowered floor enables a large opening aperture for up to 225kg wheelchair load.

An electric step automatically activates on opening the passenger sliding door to assist those with limited mobility. The vehicle is equipped internally with an electric winch to aid ingress of heavy wheelchairs, making the loading process much easier for carers. Robust wheelchair restraints have been fitted which are designed to support modern heavy electric wheelchairs safely. Additional LED lighting has also been added to the access points so that a high level of visibility is always available, day or night.

All 25 vehicles were converted and ready for the road in under two months. The vehicles have also passed rigorous inspection by the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) who have granted full Type Approval on the converted vehicles.

Over the years, Vic Young Conversions has gained the reputation of developing unique and standard vehicle conversions. Their most innovative conversion to date is the ‘fully electric, fully refrigerated’ Nissan e-NV200 for Harrods, London. Another significant achievement is the revolutionary ‘Electric Vehicle Evolution (known as EVE), a fully electric powered vehicle for wheelchair accessibility. Vic Young Conversions has also gained a reputation in the industry for solving operating and design problems using cutting-edge techniques and state-of-the-art technology.
