What types of vehicle can I hire?

Here at Vic Young we offer a range or cars from small (MG3), medium (MG ZS), large (MG HS) & 7 seat SUVs (Peugeot 5008) available in both manual and automatic transmission.

We also offer range of vans from small (Vauxhall Combo), large (Luton Box vans).

Make/models are indicative of the sizes offered and are not guaranteed.

What does the price include?

All prices quoted include as standard:

  • VAT
  • Basic insurance for the driver(s) with the option for further coverage*
  • Generous mileage allowances, Unlimited mileage for rentals up to 28 days, hires 28 days + come with 2250 miles allowance additional miles charged at £0.10 p/pm
  • 24/7 roadside assistance

There maybe additional costs should you wish to purchase Collison Damage waiver.

Are there any age restrictions?

All drivers of cars and vans with the expectation of our Luton Box Vans & 7 seater SUV must be aged 25-69.

For our Luton box vans & 7 seater SUV drivers must be aged 30 + for insurance purposes.

What is the hire period?

Unless specifically requested all hires are priced based on 24 hour time periods.

We may however be able to flexible on certain days of the week/times of the year subject to availability – let us know what your requirements are and we’ll try our best to accommodate your requirements.

Do I need my own insurance?

No – all our vehicles are provided with insurance which covers accidental damage but excludes the following even if CDW has been purchased:

  • Damage above & below door height
  • Tyres – charged at the cost of replacement due to damage, punctures/blow outs
  • Wheels including wheel trims & alloy wheels
  • Glass and windscreens – charged at cost of repair or replacement
  • Lost, stolen and/or damaged keys – this typically requires the vehicle to be recoded and the average cost is £450*

When signing the rental agreement you’ll be asked to confirm acceptance of these terms.

The cost for lost, stolen and/or damaged keys is not guaranteed until we receive a quote from the manufacture for the replacements, full costs will be disclosed once known to Viv Young (South Shields) Ltd.

In the event of an accident or damage how much excess would I be liable for?

In the event our vehicle sustains damage while in your care our excess amounts applicable are:

  • Cars (small – large) - £1000
  • 7 Seat SUV - £1500
  • Vans - £1250

We do offer the option to reduce the insurance excess for an additional cost of £10 per day – please speak to us to discuss the options available.

How do I make a booking and what happens after I make a booking?

Once you’ve made your booking with us at Vic Young, we’ll send a confirmation email, we kindly ask that the hirer/driver reads through this carefully as it will explain all documents required to meet our insurers underwriting criteria.

What documentation am I required to provide?

All drivers must provide the following to enable our insures to under write the agreement correctly:

  • Driving licence, Full valid UK photo card license (held for a minimum 2 years) if the licence is the old paper style a valid passport with a minimum 6 months before expiry must be provided
  • X2 proofs of address – these must be dated within the last 3 months and can include, bank/credit statements, utility bills the only exception to the 3 month date is a for a council tax bill as these are issued annually. (We can’t accept the following, generic mail shots such as marketing, parking/speeding fines, debt letters and/or insurance renewals/V5s).
  • DVLA licence check, this can rather be done prior to hiring or at point of collection via the following link - View or share your driving licence information - GOV.UK , it’s imperative this is completed to ensure validity of the drivers licence prior to hire commencing

What payment methods are acceptable and what is the deposit amount?

All hire charges and including the security deposit of £100 must be paid by either credit or debit card in the hirer/drivers name at point of collection.

Please note we accept the following cards only and are unable to accept AMEX, Diners, Electron and/or prepayment cards:

  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • Visa Debit
  • Mastercard Debit

Can I extend my hire?

Yes – subject to availability and agreement that the credit/debit card used for the initial payment & deposit can be charged upfront the hire can be extended.

In the event of payment failing the vehicle would need to be returned at the agreed date/time at the point of the initial booking, should payment fail after the agreed return date/time the vehicle would need to be returned immediately.

What is the fuel policy?

We operate a like for like policy that will be confirmed at collection of your vehicle and on the rental documents received via email.

It is the hirer/drivers responsibility to ensure the fuel levels are correct upon returning the vehicle.

Any vehicle that is returned requiring refuelling the following prices Inc. vat apply:

Petrol - £1.75

Diesel - £2.00

What if I have points on my licence?

We can accept a maximum of 6 points for minor offences such as speeding and/or mobile phone offences showing on the license at the time of hiring.

Points for any other offences or totalling more than 6 points along with any driving bans with in the last 10 years means our insurers are unable to underwrite the policy.
